Mauné
Shoemakers is an establishment of footwear with over 150 years old. Its
origins date back to 1859, with Pau Marimont, following years later, his
grandson Florencio Marimont, the present owner’s great grandfather, set
up shop in Gatillepis street, the present Alvarez de Castro Street and
started making espadrilles. He had a variety of benches and a lot of apprentices.
It was called "Florenci’s the espadrille maker".
In 1924, he married Carles Mauné’s
daughter. Carles Mauné was an espadrille maker and a musician and
in 1939 they moved their shop to Lasauca Street and it was called "Teresa
Marimont’s Footwear". They continued making espadrilles and going from
town to town bartering shoes for flour or other goods. From 1950, their
son Florenci, who was a musician, composer and director of orchestra (using
MP3, you can download one of his most beautiful "sardanes": "Encara hi
soc"

and little by little started selling shoes and after some refurbishing
the name changed to Mauné Shoemakers.
In March 2000, Mauné Shoemakers
completely refurbished the shop where you can find all type of footwear,
all the styles and for all the ages: children’s shoes, young people’s shoes,
men’s shoes, women’s shoes, espadrilles, slippers and special width shoes.
How many feet must have our shoes
worn? Some very important ones like Salvador Dalí’s, with his peculiar
espadrilles or his wife Gala’s. |

Here is the typical "Empordà"
espadrille, there was also the tavern keeper’s espadrille, the espadrille
from "València" and the espadrille from "Eivissa". All of them were
designed according to the region, its climate and the type of work.
